I have 34 years experience practicing neonatology, early-on as faculty at two different medical schools and later in private practice. I found my work in the NICU both demanding and rewarding, and by learning to take care of my self over the years, I managed to postpone burnout until the end of my career. My physician husband and I raised three children (now all young adults) while we both practiced medicine full time. I wrote a memoir called "So Many Babies: My life Balancing a Busy Medical Career and Motherhood" about my experiences. I love to talk to younger working mothers and enjoy describing to them some of my best, and worst, life experiences and decisions. Hopefully it gives them some reassurance.
